The official county page says MCADC contracts bed space to federal, local, state, and tribal correctional agencies. A person leaving the building may enter the community on bond, personal recognizance, after dismissal, or after time served. The same person could instead transfer to the New Mexico Corrections Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, a tribal custodian, ICE, or another jail.

McKinley County describes MCADC as a long- and short-term adult detention center overseen through a Jail Authority Board that includes county and City of Gallup officials. The official page reports 328 beds and approximately 55 staff. These figures describe the facility, not the number of current detainees or releases.
The county lists the warden and deputy warden, but the main line remains the practical first contact for status and records routing. The facility's mixed local, state, federal, and tribal use means that population figures cannot be read as a county-only count.

The building name identifies the physical custodian, but the committing authority identifies which record and locator must be checked after the person leaves South Boardman Drive.
Ask for the destination or receiving agency in the movement entry. A local community release should be paired with the McKinley County court record. MCADC Release Record Details
MCADC does not publish a release-record field list, so a focused request should name the existing data sought. Useful identity fields include the full booked name, aliases, date of birth, booking number, booking date, and committing agency. Event fields include release date and time, release reason or disposition code, court or bond reference, and destination agency. Ask for the associated booking photograph only when it is relevant to the same booking.
Release reason needs context. Bond and personal recognizance generally mean the case remains open. “Time served” usually identifies completion of the custodial part of a sentence. A transfer to NMCD, federal, tribal, or immigration custody does not mean the person is free. A deceased notation ends custody but is not a release. If a field is withheld or redacted, ask the custodian to identify the applicable legal basis.
Note: A narrow booking date range and known agency help the custodian locate the right event without creating a new report.
MCADC Release and ICE Holds
ICE describes a detainer as a request for notice before release and, in some cases, up to 48 extra hours of custody so ICE can assume control. A county release entry and continued immigration detention can therefore both be accurate. When an MCADC record names ICE, use the destination field and ICE locator instead of describing the person as released to the community.
A 2019 ACLU of New Mexico report reproduced an MCADC policy effective in 2018 that distinguished DHS Form I-247 from a criminal warrant and told staff to disregard immigration detainers. That source is historical. It does not prove the current policy. MCADC's reference to federal contract beds is also broader than ICE and cannot establish a present immigration contract. MCADC Post-Release Visiting Rule
McKinley County's detention FAQ states that a former MCADC inmate must wait 90 days after release before visiting a current inmate. This rule makes the exact recorded release date useful after the person leaves. It also confirms that MCADC uses release-date information internally even without a public release feed.
The FAQ is not a date lookup. If the start of the waiting period is disputed, request the completed jail release entry. A court order may have been entered before discharge processing ended, so the operational MCADC date is the relevant record for a facility rule tied to release.
Leaving MCADC After Release
No official source reviewed gives a fixed release hour, exit door, family waiting area, weekend or holiday practice, property-return timetable, gate funds, or jail-provided ride. Call MCADC before traveling or arranging pickup. A legal release order can still be followed by hold checks, paperwork, property return, or a transfer.
Gallup Express lists a scheduled point at West Aztec and Boardman. The transit agency publishes a $3 cash day fare, all-day transfers, and a paid quarter-mile route deviation that must be set up in advance. MCADC Renovation and Release Access
A July 2025 Gallup Sun account of a city-council presentation described the current jail as about 26 years old. It reported ten pods, staffing below the budgeted level, and a four-phase rehabilitation estimated around $15 million through 2026 after a replacement estimate rose much higher. These dated operational details are not current custody counts or release statistics.
Renovation helps explain why an entrance, office location, or physical process may change. It does not establish a release delay, schedule, or records policy. Confirm facility access by phone. McKinley County's detention history reaches back further: a local cultural-history source says the 1938 PWA courthouse, opened in 1939, once held a jail on its third floor. Historical facilities must not be confused with the present South Boardman center.
